Big Cat Rescue Celebrates World Wildlife Day

 At Big Cat Rescue, we believe that every day should be World Wildlife Day and that all wild animals should live free; rather than bred for life in cages.  In keeping with the African and Asian theme for 2016 we want to highlight Big Cat Rescue's African and Asian cats:

On 20 December 2013 the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 3 March, the day of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.lionphoto_jv067-2In its resolution, the General Assembly reaffirmed the intrinsic value of wildlife and its various contributions, including ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic, to sustainable development and human well-being.The General Assembly took note of the outcome of the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES, held in Bangkok from 3 to 14 March 2013, in particular Resolution Conf. 16.1 designating 3 March as World Wildlife Day, in order to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora, and recognized the important role of CITES in ensuring that international trade does not threaten the survival of species.The General Assembly requested the CITES Secretariat, in collaboration with relevant organizations of the United Nations system, to facilitate the implementation of World Wildlife Day.2016 theme is “The future of wildlife is in our hands”, with African and Asian animals being the main focus of global campaigns.2015: The 2015 theme is "Wildlife Crime is serious, let’s get serious about wildlife crime".Links about it: https://www.un.org/en/events/wildlifeday/"Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on World Wildlife Day" (PDF). https://www.cites.org/eng/news/pr/2013/unga_wwd_res.pdfOfficial website of World Wildlife Day https://www.wildlifeday.org/Official Facebook page of World Wildlife Day https://www.facebook.com/WorldWildlifeDay
