Andy
Tiger M (N) DOB 6/5/04 (other paperwork says he was born in 1999 and 2001 so no way to know for sure)Rescued November 2016Died 8/16/18 I'm very sad to report that what Dr. Justin Boorstein found, and confirmed with Dr Liz Wynn, is that Andy Tiger has a mass, bigger than his heart, in his lung and the rest of the space is riddled with cysts. There is no way to treat this so the only kind thing to do is help him to the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.[audio mp3="https://bigcatrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Andy-Tiger-2016.mp3"][/audio]Andy was acquired by Big Cats of Serenity Springs on 7/27/04 from Jungle Land Zoo Kissimmee, FL . It was noted at the time that he had a limp and he may have had urinary issues as well. Jungle Land Zoo had removed it’s animals from public view in late 2002. The owners claimed they were another victim to the post 9/11 economy, but the local Channel 6 News reported the zoo was being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violations of the Animal Welfare Act. A surprise inspection in June by state inspectors said the “facility is suffering from a severe drainage issue,” noting rotted cages and inadequate fence heights.Andy was shipped to Big Cats of Serenity Springs with 2 lions, 2 cougars & 2 other tigers, when Jungle Land closed, along with two binturongs that died during the trip from FL to CO. One of the tigers, named Sundar died at the age of 14 in 2009. The other tiger named Abu was euthanized when he was only 12 years old in 2007.Andy had presumably been used as breeding stock for the pay to play schemes at Big Cats of Serenity Springs and elsewhere. He was neutered in Nov 2016 by the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge staff once they took over the Big Cats of Serenity Springs. Cubs were frequently transferred both in and out to GW Zoo, Jungle Safari AKA The Zoo, Wildlife in Need, Dirk Arthur's magic act, Tanganyika Wildlife Park, Hanson Exotics, T.I.G.E.R.S. and others.https://youtu.be/wk9sBjh47qwRead more about his arrival at Big Cat Rescue here: https://bigcatrescue.org/nov-16-2016/
