White Tigers at Field of Flight Carnival Outrages Public

Shame on all of those who allowed the abhorrent display of white tigers at the Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival this year.

The contemptible practice of breeding white tigers carries a sole benefit: income for the human breeder. White tigers result from generations of inbreeding, producing countless genetic abnormalities including cleft palates - evident in the Enquirer photograph of one such tragic outcome at the Field of Flight carnival midway.

Most cubs inbred for a white coat have normal coloring but suffer from the same defects. These "throwaway tigers" are often killed at birth, as they turn no profit in a sideshow.

True conservation of the powerful, patient hunter does not include tigers bred for deformity and unscrupulous profit. Let's teach our children that the graceful big cats, many facing extinction in the wild, deserve not captivity in carnivals, but our support for preservation programs. With as few as 3,200 tigers surviving in the wild, you can help by:

• "Adopting" a symbolic tiger through the World Wildlife Fund.

• Not buying wildlife products made from endangered species.

• Using your purchasing power to buy recycled paper (tiger habitat is often lost to the pulp and paper industry).

• Supporting such rescue programs as Big Cat Rescue which strive to halt abuse of big cats.

• Avoiding carnivals, petting exhibits, facilities or industries that cage big cats or cubs, diverting money from real conservation efforts.

This exhibit is a super-charged educational and entertaining exhibit for children and adults alike!  The goal of the display is to promote and excite people to the many conservation issues involving the last five remaining species of tigers in the wild.  This is a completely safe and wonderful experience.  Patrons will be able to see the keepers feed the tigers and conduct "Tiger Talks".  This program is achieved by applying the method of "Recreational Learning", (Lewis, 1988) and adding the Keeper Staff interactive activities achieves the goal to bring people closer to the true meaning of conservation.  There are only about 40 Royal White Tigers on exhibit in zoo's throughout the United States and less than 400  remaining in the world.

This amazing exhibit will be open daily, July 1 - 4.

Entry wristband is only $3 and can be used throughout the entire festival.
